Pauken was quickly out of the truck, uninjured and took the ovation from the standing crowd, along with a perfect 30 from the judges. On the last jump, the truck bicycled on both sides before finally going over and having a small fire erupt. “Digger” caught big air as he sailed over the TTD Monster Jump several times. Pilot, Charlie Pauken, basically drove it till he killed it, going past the 90-second time limit. Taz assumed the number one spot after his attempt on the tough course. The run was capped off with a jump off the side of the TTD Monster Jump that had him sideways on landing and rolling over as time expired. Next up was Air Force Afterburner, grabbing the top spot after his showmanship. Maniac was the initial truck to attempt the TTD Monster Jump, but broke the spindle off ending his run early.īounty Hunter got the points lead with 21 total even after breaking the rear axle off the TTD Monster Jump, he completed his run doing a massive doughnut with the crippled truck. Iron Outlaw, who went out sixth, was the first to actually complete the 90-second run, but only posted a score of 19 from the three judges. Most truck crews would probably be up through the night working to have their truck ready for Sunday’s afternoon show.ĭespite trying to take it easy on the trucks, several of the lower budget teams shied away from the Texas Truck Dealers Monster Jump, but still ended up with broken parts during their runs. The nights “freestyle” competition turned out to be more of a destruction derby as the high-flying course took its toll on the equipment. Officials had to use video replay to determine that Maniac eked out the victory by mere inches to advance. Despite his poor qualifying run, Air Force Afterburner hung tough with Maniac and at the line it was….a photo finish. The best heads up race of the night came in round 1 when fast qualifier, Maniac went against Air Force Afterburner. Grave Digger was able to hold a steady line on the twice around course edging out Bounty Hunter by a truck length for the win. As the green light was shown, Grave Digger got a slight holeshot on Bounty Hunter. The highly anticipated match up of two of the top trucks and former champions had the crowd buzzing. Grave Digger bested Superman for a close round 1 win, Tropical Thunder in the second round, and caught a break in the semi-finals when the apparent winner, Iron Outlaw, was penalized for hitting a track cone. Bounty Hunter had a relatively easy trip to last pairing getting by Taz in round 1, then Patriot and Donkey Kong, who both bicycled during their runs.
